Transdermal Oestrogen Does Not Increase Likelihood of Clotting
Transdermal delivery of oestrogen therapy seems not to alter the risk of venous thromboembolism in postmenopausal women when compared with oral delivery, according to a study published in the latest issue of the journal Menopause. "Venous thromboembolic complications represent an established risk factor of oestrogen therapy, and evidence is now mounting that the route of oestrogen administration influences this risk," said lead author Lila Nachtigall, MD, Women's Wellness Program, New York University, New York, New York.
